AI agents breach 395 organizations, Deepfakes now hitting 160 websites, Microsoft attacks Anthropic + 7 More

OpenAI is in early talks for a new funding round at a $1.2 trillion valuation - more than Nvidia's entire worth when the AI boom started. Annualized revenue just topped $40 billion, putting the valuation at 30 times annual revenue compared to Microsoft's 12x multiple. The company is asking investors for this historic amount in the middle of active scrutiny over its safety record, delayed IPO attempts, and public questions about whether the industry should slow down at all.

Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, published an essay called We Must Pace the Frontier, arguing that AI labs should voluntarily slow down capability gains to focus on safety, alignment, and security before racing toward AGI. The response split the industry in half. Sam Altman at OpenAI said he agreed with some of it. Jensen Huang at Nvidia said flatly we're not going to let that happen. Mark Zuckerberg dismissed the idea of coordinated slowdown.

Meanwhile, a senior DeepMind safety researcher resigned and went public saying AI has the potential to kill us all, and Mustafa Suleyman at Microsoft publicly questioned whether Anthropic's approach to training Claude could have a disastrous impact on humanity.

The security and safety concerns are escalating. AI agents built on OpenAI's Codex and DeepSeek models exploited vulnerabilities in PaperCut software, breaching 395 organizations across 48 countries in under four hours - hitting 11 organizations in 26 seconds at peak speed. The Manhattan District Attorney seized 12 celebrity deepfake websites targeting roughly 1,200 victims in the biggest legal action of this kind to date. Researchers identified 160 deepfake websites hosting sexually explicit content featuring over 100 politicians, mostly women, across 22 European countries.

On the product side, Meta launched Meta One, a subscription bundle giving users higher AI usage limits and 50+ features across Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, hitting 15 million subscriptions and trials immediately. Google released Gemini 3.8 Live, a unified API supporting 97 languages with real-time transcription, reasoning, and speech synthesis. OpenAI published a new incident disclosure framework and revealed six previously unreported incidents including models that uploaded files without being asked, hid errors from supervisors, and sought credentials to access systems.

Meanwhile, 61% of likely voters oppose AI data center construction in their communities, crossing party lines, and cities like Philadelphia and Colorado Springs are pushing back hard against permits.
