Google Gemini 4 Argon Finds Internet Wide PHP Bug, OpenAI and Google Cloud Join Forces, Walmart Lets AI Agents Shop + 7 More

Google's Gemini 4 model, nicknamed Argon, found a critical vulnerability in PHP, the programming language running roughly seventy percent of the internet, with security firm Wiz flagging how deep the exposure ran. Government agencies started pulling affected sites offline, and OpenAI launched Patch the Planet, a coordinated global effort to deploy the fix before attackers could exploit it. The flaw was found by an AI model hunting for it, not a human researcher, and that cuts both ways: the same capabilities that found and fixed this hole could be weaponized to discover vulnerabilities and keep them hidden.

The competitive landscape is shifting dramatically. Google rolled out new developer tools for PyTorch to run AI code on non-Nvidia chips, while Amazon shipped TorchNeuron for the same purpose, essentially giving developers an exit ramp off Nvidia's infrastructure. Meanwhile, OpenAI announced its frontier models are now available on Google Cloud, meaning the two supposed fiercest rivals are operating under the same roof. Anthropic, heading toward a planned IPO with a reported forty-five billion dollar computing deal with Nscale in place, is reportedly struggling to secure processing power because Amazon and Google, its own suppliers, now see it as a competitor.

Geopolitical tensions are reshaping AI access. The US government ordered all federal civilian agencies to strip DeepSeek, the Chinese AI company, from their systems citing national security concerns, part of what's increasingly being called an AI cold war. China is simultaneously pushing its own companies toward homegrown alternatives as the US restricts chip exports, creating walled-off ecosystems on both sides.

Meta's new AI assistant Muse hit ten million US downloads in forty days but exposed more than six thousand eight hundred private conversations through DNS records, prompting Meta to pause the feature responsible, a reminder that these tools aren't automatically private despite how they feel.

The wallet is becoming contested ground. Walmart is rolling out support for AI agents to shop and make purchases on your behalf with spending controls, while Amazon is actively blocking AI agents from its site entirely. Microsoft is advising businesses to treat their own AI agents like insider threats, restricting access and assuming unintended consequences. OpenAI is expanding advertising inside ChatGPT to twenty-six more countries, now reaching eighty-nine total with over one hundred thousand advertisers, while Anthropic launched Claude Duet, a proactive assistant that works on tasks in the background without waiting for user input.
